Howard Keith cocktail chair from 1952
Howard Keith was a designer and maker of stylish upholstered furniture producing designs for Heals of London in the 1950’s. His company was highly successful in making modern designs for sofas and chairs well into the 1970’s before becoming one of Europe’s top high-end contract upholstery manufacturer. Howard Keith was born Hans Krebs in 1902 and changed his name when he came to England in 1933 escaping Nazi Germany.
Howard Keith’s designs for small sofas and chairs in the 50’s had a very Italian influence. These pieces were so well made many are still around today.
The frame and construction are in great shape. I have French polished the arm and legs and reupholstered it in Warwick Kaleidoscope Sunset Fabric.
